# Templates and copies

# Templates and copies

Templates are starting points. Copies are independent cards. Neither creates a permanent link to the original.

## Start from a template

1. Choose **New card** or **Browse templates** on the dashboard.
2. Choose **Blank card** or a template.
3. Card Studio creates a new draft in your organization.
4. Adjust the name, object, placement, fields, and actions before you publish.

The gallery contains system templates and may contain organization templates marked with an organization chip.

## Save a card as an organization template

An owner can open the card settings and choose **Save as template**. The card must be valid. The current draft is saved first and then used as the template's content.

Keep template values generic. Avoid report IDs, internal field names, and external connections that only exist in one portal, unless the template is deliberately portal-specific.

Owners can remove organization templates from the gallery. This does not delete cards already created from the template.

## Duplicate an existing card

Choose **Duplicate** on the dashboard, give the copy a name, and choose a placement. The copy gets:

* its own draft;
* its own card ID;
* its own live status;
* its own version history.

Publishing or rolling back the copy does not affect the original.

## Copying to a narrower placement

When you duplicate to a placement that does not support all of the original's building blocks, Card Studio removes the disallowed blocks automatically. This especially applies to CRM data blocks when copying to the sidebar.

Always review the copy visually. Allowed but wide components, such as tables, can still be a poor fit in a narrow placement.
