# Create your first card

# Create your first card

This guide builds a simple company overview with a heading, record fields, and a HubSpot action.

## 1. Create the card

1. Log in to Card Studio.
2. Select **+ New card** or **Browse templates**.
3. Select **Blank card**.
4. Enter a clear **Card name**, for example "Company overview".
5. Select **Companies** as the object.
6. Select **Middle column (tab)** as the placement.
7. Select **Start building**.

You can change the name, object, and placement later under Card settings. The placement affects which building blocks HubSpot allows.

## 2. Add content

The palette sits on the left. Click a building block to add it at the bottom, or drag it to the exact spot you want.

1. Add a **Heading** and type "Company overview".
2. Add a **Property list**.
3. Pick properties such as "Company name", "Lifecycle stage", and "Owner".
4. Add a **CRM action**.
5. Set the button label to "Create note" and choose the built-in action **Add a note**.

Click a building block on the card to open its settings on the right. Click an empty area to return to Card settings.

## 3. Use a dynamic value

Add a **Text** building block. In the text field, you can write fixed text and insert a field from the record. For example, build the sentence:

> Owner: \[Record · Owner]

The owner shown changes automatically from company to company. Read [Data and dynamic values](/building/data-bindings) if you want to use associated records, form answers, or external systems.

## 4. Check the draft

Card Studio saves automatically. Wait until the status at the top shows **Saved**.

Use **Undo** and **Redo** if you change your mind. You can move a building block by dragging it, and remove it from the right panel or with the Delete key.

## 5. Preview

1. Select **Preview**.
2. Check the order, texts, width, and buttons.
3. Go back to the designer if anything needs fixing.

The preview uses the same interpretation and the same HubSpot component mapping as the runtime. The specific demo data may differ from the data on a real HubSpot record, though.

## 6. Publish

1. Select **Publish**.
2. Read the summary and confirm that the pre-publish check says the card is valid.
3. Select **Continue** and confirm the object and placement.
4. Select **Publish now**.

Publishing creates a new version. The card is then live and is fetched automatically in HubSpot.

## If you cannot publish

Click the error indicator in the designer. It takes you to the first building block with a problem. The most common causes are an empty report number, a list without a data source, a building block that is not supported in the sidebar, or an action that points to a missing field. See [Publishing errors](/troubleshooting/publishing).
